Wednesday, February 15, 2017, H.E. Atiqullah Atifmal, the Ambassador of the I.R. of Afghanistan met with Asmwi Zain, the professor of Engineering faculty of IIUM, and the consultant in designing technical master plan for the establishment of International Islamic University in Nangarhar province, Professor Dr. Wahabuddin Raees, director of Alumni and Global Networking Division, and Azrin Mohammad Din, the consultants member for the establishment of this university.
They discussed how to hasten the construction work of International Islamic University in Nangarhar province. The advisory members of the establishment of this university mentioned that if the Afghan government provide them enough budget on time, they will be able to finish its construction work in 8 years instead of 15 years.
Professor Asmawi has enough experience in establishing new universities in various countries, and he stated that in the construction plan of this university each faculty has a separate department building and they will prioritize the construction work based on the needs and importance of that field in Afghanistan.
The ambassador added that Afghans’ need for higher education is one of the biggest of all time in current situation which will have a huge impact on bringing peace and prosperity to the nation and also the assistance of IIUM in the establishment of this university will strengthen the ties between the two countries.
The Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan has formed a working committee for developing the International Islamic University in Afghanistan and this committee will visit IIUM in the month of April to have discussions with the various departments, to understand the mechanics of starting and running an international Islamic University.
